When I got back to the office started to look at the problems. Firstly thought it may be something to do with DNS resolutions, however, that checked out ok. I then looked at the SMTP queues and noticed that some messages were stuck in the local deliver queue, all with status "Retry". This was effecting both external and internal email.

These are all spam messages but when I try and remove them the tool does not appear in the GUI. I can use the Get-Queue power shell command to see the queues but when I try and drill down I cannot get into the Submission queue only our SMTP connector. This is Exchange 2010 SP2,

Aug 16, 2012 · I was working on an SBS 2003 server that had e-mails for one user that would not deliver. They were stuck in the Local Delivery Queue in Exchange 2003 in a retry state. I tried to force connection, but they would never budge.

Basically, the messages are stuck in the SMTP queue. A message will come into the server, I can see it listed under "Exchange System Manager", but if you list the properties of the message queue it says something like. 00:10 SMTP Message queued for local delivery. 00:10 SMTP Message delivered locally to [email protected]
