Most modern Smartphones have the option within their settings to receive delivery reports for text messages. These are usually confirmed on the senders phone with a small tick and indicate your friend has received the message you sent to them.

As O2 do not support SMS delivery reports by just activating the option in message settings here is what you do..... Start a new text message and before you begin type *0# followed by a space and begin your message, the other person does not see the code but you will get a message back saying when it has been delivered.

SMS Delivery reports. Put *0# at the start of each SMS message. That's not a delivery report, it's a hideous #### bodge. A delivery report returns a specifically formatted response, that decent phones can parse and use to indicate delivery status (either in a 'reports' folder or in the 'sent messages' folder).

Delivery reports are free even if you have to pay for every single text. They are just classed as network notifications and although they appear as an SMS, they aren't really. I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies.

O2 sms system uses a different delivery system than other networks and this is a problem with some handsets. What was happening when the system was switched on was that some customers were not getting sms through straight away, some customers wernt getting sms delivered at all and some was having problems in receiving sms delivery reports.
