Just happened to me yesterday. Same MO -- I was home, no doortag. The exception was logged in the FedEx system at 10:27, just 3 minutes before the guaranteed delivery time. Makes me wonder if FedEx is oversubscribed (too many packages for not enough drivers) and perhaps this the loophole they use to avoid missing their service guarantee?

Dec 22, 2014 · I ordered a present for my mother for Christmas and paid extra shipping to insure that it got here before Christmas and it was scheduled to be delivered today but the tracking updated with "Delivery exception", "Business closed - No delivery attempt". If you live in an apartment and your FedEx/UPS driver's SOP is to go to the leasing office instead of your front door, a delivery exception can happen if the office happened to be closed for whatever reason at the time of delivery. But as everyone else has said, call FedEx immediately.
