Just happened to me yesterday. Same MO -- I was home, no doortag. The exception was logged in the FedEx system at 10:27, just 3 minutes before the guaranteed delivery time. Makes me wonder if FedEx is oversubscribed (too many packages for not enough drivers) and perhaps this the loophole they use to avoid missing their service guarantee?

I have been tracking a package through FedEx, and the last time I checked, it said "Delivery exception: Customer not available or business closed."
