Side note – Clearance Delivery really doesn’t care where you are parked (FBO), thats a Ground Control function. Now, they DO care where you are if you are calling them from a satellite airport through a remote outlet. Example: “Clearance, 606GA to Teterboro with Mike [ATIS]”

Mar 06, 2017 · When you fly out of the same airport you will get used to the same altitude every time. For example, KPDX usually issues a 3,000-foot clearance. Don’t write out 9000 or 2000. There’s no point. You know it isn’t 2 feet. It’s quicker to write the first number of the clearance and be on your way.

"Clearance Delivery" is exactly what you've surmised it is - a frequency used on the ground to copy your initial clearance from ATC before you take off. The idea behind using a dedicated frequency for this is that it avoids tying up the ground control frequency (used for authorizing ground movement on taxiways and such) with long clearances and readbacks.

Mar 14, 2014 · MYF in San Diego, for example has a published CD freq, but unless it is super busy, they prefer you to get your clearance from ground. If you call CD initially, 9 times out of 10 they will tell you to switch to ground and then they will give you your clearance.
