We recently took our 6 year old grandson to Tregembo Zoo. It had been raining but had stopped so we took a chance. We walked into the zoo and 15 minutes later, the heavens let loose. We were soaked. There was lightning and thunder; It was awful. We had to take cover in the rest rooms.

The Tregembo Animal Park in Wilmington, NC is South Eastern North Carolina’s oldest zoo. The Tregembo family has owned and operated the zoo in the same location for over 60 years. George and June Tregembo first opened the park doors in 1952 with just a handful of species.

We visited the Tregembo Zoo in Wilmington, NC on Bei Bei’s(a panda at the national zoo in Washington, DC) birthday. This picture almost sums up how we felt about it. It was HORRIFYING. These animals are not living in anything even close to their natural habitat. The cages are soooo tiny and some of the animals were pacing.
