Our second was the Wanton-Lyman-Hazard House, only a block away. Built in 1697, it is considered the oldest surviving house in Newport. It’s an almost plain, but elegant, brick-red, wooden building that began life as two rooms on either side of a shared fireplace and grew over the centuries into its present two-story configuration.
