You are at high risk of clotting until 6 weeks after delivery, so you shouldn't stop the clexane until at least then. It is usual to stop the clexane for 12 - 24 hours when labour starts, but for those at very high risk heparin can be given as an IV infusion and the amount can be controlled/reduced.

P.S. Many OBs switch to heparin because you can have an epidural while on heparin and there is an antidote if you were to go into premature labor that can very quickly remove the effects of heparin. Also, you can stay on heparin and just go into labor naturally, while, if you're on lovenox you need a more controlled delivery.

Thankfully i didn't have to go that far, but I have the MTHFR gene mutation and was on aspirin for the first half of this pregnancy. I was originally told I'd have to take it until a week or so before delivery (and that if we lost a 3rd pregnancy, I'd be put on heparin), to avoid bleeding complications when I did deliver.

i am on asprin and heparin.. and will have to be induced so that we plan in advance when to stop the blood thinners.. My question is for those of you that have done blood thinners during pregnancy, how soon did you stop the asprin? I believe my dr said we will stop one week before induction (and the heparin 12 hours before).
