Vista's hardware hogging is mostly of ram, so defragging the disk won't help much. Defragging depends completely on the disk size, number of files and time since last defrag. So if you fresh install vista on an empty drive defrag will take < 5 seconds.

Windows defrag is the crappiest you can ever get. Even TuneUp defrag which is an extremely bad form of defrag is better than Windows. And with the average number of fragments above 1.1, Vista will take hours. For me, a some 5 years ago, in XP defrag took about 7 hours with about that much of data and that was when I got Diskeeper.

I have 1 new Gateway laptop with 160 gig HD 2 meg ram and it takes 8-12 hours to defrag and my new HP with 500 gig HD 2 meg ram can take a day and a half but usually I don't have to worry because the systems usually locks up before it defrags or will just keep defragging for days!. Both have Vista Premium.
