Santo Domingo Zoo is big. Every animal appears to have lots of space, groups of them wander about as if they were home on the range and there are a lot of different ones. I hadn't realised Hippos had such enormous bums! You can even get up close to the crocodiles! The cost is not expensive, 100 dominican pesos (US$£2.70) with kids at RD$60 each.

Our hotel was in Puerto Plata and we rent a taxi for one day and went across the island to the capital Santo Domingo, where the zoo is situated. Matkaa oli 222 km ja se kesti yhteen suuntaan 4 tuntia, joten aikaa on varattava! The distance between these two places in only 222 km, but it took 4 hours to get there and 4 hours back!
