2 reviews of Rick & Rays Small Engine Repair "Used them for the last few years on my snowmobiles. They did an upgrade kit on my sons 120, multiple services on the other 3 sleds. Always great to work with and never a bill that shocked me. Great guys and good work"

The engine hours can be found on the gauges on the console. You can easily navigate to displaying the hours by hitting the mode button for most gauges. There is one kicker though, on some of the manufacturers, like Yamaha, the engine hours were still tracked by the physical gauge. So, for most of the early and up until a few years ago.

An outboard engine can run on an average of about 1500 hours. Although every outboard engine is different, as long as it’s maintained well, it is bound to last longer but only if it is used regularly. Outboard parts are prone to breakage as opposed to wearing, which is why it is essential to take good care of them to increase their longevity.

The average boater uses his or her boat about 50 hours per season, so use that as a good rule of thumb. If a boat is four years old, then about 200 hours would be about normal. If it’s five years old, 250 is about right, and so forth.

Just discovered in the manual how get the engine hours readout from my 2008 truck. It shows 4620 hours with 152,000 miles on the odometer. Is that high, low, average? That comes out to 32.9 miles per hour.

It does not need to have the engine running for the hour meter to advance - 1 tick, every 6 minutes on the 0.1 hour digit. The Floscan 7000/9000 combo heads have to see a signal from the distributor in order for the hour meter to advance on it. If the engine is not running, it will not tick off any time. Oct 25, 2012 #4.
