May 22, 2010 · The problem that most people have with the PTO driven side delivery rakes is the tendency to "rake heavy" I've seen guys try to rake heavy, wet, hay that isn't ready to be raked. They think that, since it's PTO driven they can just "plow through".. It's the "because I can" syndrome....

Dec 17, 2015 · The hay has to come off the LH side of the front rake, and the rear rake has to pick it up and start rolling the same windrow over the next swath with the RH end of the basket on the rear rake. Running side by side, the front rake's RH end will be in front of the other rakes LH delivery end... therefore it cannot pick up the right rake's windrow...

We have went from raking singles with a 9 ft. side delivery rake to raking 30 ft. swaths with a 14 wheel rake with really no difference in drying times. What we have done is to wait until the hay is drier to rake. The wheel rake allows this over a side delivery.
