    The the layer of bubble might be the beginning of krausen, or it might be, as you suggest, the foam left over from pouring the wort into the fermenter. I'd advise giving it another 24 hours. If there's no activity, pitch more yeast.

    I am making a starter from it and for the the first time I have no activity and no krausen after 24 hours. There is no leak from the stopper in the flask. Had I known in advance this would have been a great question for the White Brothers. The only variable that has changed on my end is that I am using an organic DME. Any advice? Thanks BN Army.
