The Souq is open everyday from 9am till 1pm then again from 4pm to 9pm. In the morning certain shops don't open till 10 and in the afternoon some till 430 so go after that to be safe. It's not seasonal, but on Fridays it doesn't open in the morning.

As said there are no specific time for Matrah Souq, it is for public persons like tailor and you can visit the souq from morning up to early night and there are some shops still open for more time but my advice is to visit in the morning time and afternoon.

The Shangri La Barr al Jissah Resort and Spa offered a complimentary shuttle to the Mutrah Souq near old Muscat. The timings were at 15:30 and 16:30 hours for 2 hour visit on a daily basis. The bad news is that the shuttle is actually a full size tour bus coach, making the experience less intimate.
