Even IIS SMTP has a deferred delivery mechanism that it would seem Exchange 2010 does not. You could redirect large messages to the IIS SMTP server which could store them on disk, and, checking for latency first, have the IIS SMTP server send them via a script when latency is low.

Aug 07, 2009 · Back with more problems! Everything was working great, I hade two clients on the exchange server 2007 and the rest on 2003. Everything was coming and going through the internet and the internal network. Than all of a sudden about 45 messages were in the queue called "Messages queued for deferred delivery" What is this about?

Dec 17, 2011 · all email is stuck in queue on exchange 2010. Everything has been working fine but, last night @ 9pm all email stopped. I can still connect to exchange both with outlook client and OWA. But, email not flowing. This is internal and external email. I am in still in co-exisit mode with 2003. rebooted both servers still down. HELP!!!
