I have CentOS 5.5 with Postfix installed on it. I want to use local delivery agent with default setting, but I want it to store mail with Maildir directory style mailboxes. When I set the mailboxes to be stored ( as default ) in: mail_spool_directory = /var/spool/mail/ And I manually create maildir, so it looks like this:

As the terminology suggests, every delivery to this maildir must have its own unique name. When a maildir is shared through NFS, every machine that delivers to the maildir must have its own hostname. Within one machine, every delivery within the same second must have a different delivery identifier.

postfix - Maildir "new" has messages but Inbox is empty ...

You're probably not sharing the same mailbox location/folder and/or mailbox delivery style (MBOX vs. MDIR) in both Postfix and Dovecot. As a result, Postfix is (correctly) writing under "/home/mailuser/Maildir" (where you see your mail arriving, under the "new" subfolder), but as dovecot is searching somewhere else... it doesn't find such mails (so you get a "no-mail" from it).
