Location: NYC. This is not the greatest news to hear, no matter what & how one might feel about Lyric Hi-Fi. It is one less place for the hobby to make itself visible and accessible to anyone that seeks to participate in the hobby. And it is bad for NYC to lose a place that has been around as long as this one has.

A percentage of the people over 40 are jettisoning their physical media for streaming every year, and the people *under* 40 will not become wealthier people over 40 who buy high-end hi-fi, because they never owned lower-end hi-fi. They always just streamed. Lyric is in a business that is shrinking every year.

BTW: Lyric HiFi was across the street from a long-standing counter service luncheonette Lexington Candy Shop. It was featured in Three Days of the Condor starring Robert Redford. It was the sandwich shop Redford’s character left his office to be absent to while a shadow ops eliminated Redford’s co-workers.

In 2010 I decided I should visit some local hifi stores to upgrade my speakers which at that time were Quad ESLs and Rogers LS3/5as acquired twenty years earlier from the Sound Mill in Mt. Kisco which was a wonderful stereo store but had closed after being sold to Harvey’s of NYC.
