Realistically, you are 15 or 20+ minutes to the beaches you'll want to visit and the "town" of Kihei. Kihei is not as cute/quaint/walkable as many of the other towns on the island. So, in the end, we felt like we were paying "beach front" prices to stay a longish drive from the beach.

It's dirty and they said they had central air & it was a noisy window air conditioner and ceiling fan & stand up fan! The stove did not work half the time & the bathroom was gross & the bath tub kept backing up!! Never again will I stay in such icky mess!!!"
