The Jack Rabbit has change throughout the years when you look at old family pictures but I love that the owners keep the tradition of Jack Rabbit in front of the store alive. The Jackrabbit Trading Post was never a “real” Trading Post (like, say Hubbell’s). What it is really is a survivor throwback to the roadside businesses that grew up in the southwest along 66 (and other roads) that serviced travelers with snacks, gas, kitsch, postcards, t-shirts and moccasins.

The Jack Rabbit Trading Post has been around since 1949. It’s been in the family of Antonio’s wife, Cindy, for three generations, dating back to 1961. Inside, there’s a small room in the back that serves as a sort-of Route 66 museum. I was jealous of those old 66 road signs. The larger front room had items for sale.
