I have been charged for returning an item the next day. To OP, refuse the package if you don't want shipping charge for return.

Nov 30, 2015 · Amazon has a deal worked out with UPS that their shipping fees are quite nominal. Instead of refusing delivery, just request a refund for returning it. Choose the option that has free UPS pickup (this is recent, may be seasonal, usually that's for a charge, but dropoff is free), and they will come -- no need for anything but being there when UPS shows up with their own label to return it.

Another snag with refusing delivery is that you need to be in to do it. A while ago I tried to cancel an order and was told by Amazon to refuse delivery because the item was about to be dispatched and couldn't be cancelled. Nov 20, 2011 · One recommendation is to print out something that has the tracking number on it and work up some text that spells out that you wish to refuse the package and then sign the paper with the text and tracking number on it. That should cover the attempt by the driver to deliver it without signature if you're not present to refuse the package.
