Oct 01, 2012 · Highlights Porous silicon is functionalized for targeted-drug-delivery applications. Folic acid, polyethylene glycol and doxorubicin are covalently attached. Effect of reactant concentration and solvent of folate covalent attachment studied. The drug loaded particle shows higher toxicity than the free drug. Folate incorporation increases tremendously the cytotoxicity.Author: Ozra Tabasi, Cavus Falamaki, Zahra Khalaj

Targeted drug delivery of mesoporous silica nanoparticles. Specific targeting is highly attractive as an approach to spontaneously distinguish the site of disease diagnosis and as a result, this technique reduces drug administration dosage and diminishes toxic side-effects of drugs during circulation.

A main challenge in nanobiomedicine is the engineering of nanostructures or nanomaterials that can efficiently encapsulate drugs at high load, cross cell membranes, and controllably release their cargo at target sites. Although mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) are safe, versatile, and promising carrier materials for targeted drug delivery, their aggregation phenomena under physiological ...Author: Li-Sheng Wang, Li-Chen Wu, Shin-Yi Lu, Li-Ling Chang, I-Ting Teng, Chia-Min Yang, Ja-an Annie Ho

The selective action of drugs in tumor cells is a major problem in cancer therapy. Most chemotherapy drugs act nonspecifically and damage both cancer and healthy cells causing various side effects. In this study, the preparation of a selective drug delivery system, which is able to act as a carrier for hydrophobic and anticancer drugs is reported.Author: Luciane Franca de Oliveira, Karim Bouchmella, Kaliandra de Almeida Goncalves, Jefferson Bettini, Joe...
