Landlord to re-open Emma’s Back Porch. by John Best. May 28, 2020. The Burlington Gazette is reporting that Emma’s Back Porch and the Water Street Cooker will re-open but popular owner Craig Kowalchuk will not be behind the bar. According to the Gazette the buildings were owned by 2084 Lakeshore Holdings Ltd.

Craig Kowalchuk, the operator of Emma’s Back Porch didn’t own the property; he rented it from Mayrose Tyco. That company has significant property interests in Burlington. They owned that land on which the Bridgewater development is taking place. The property to the east of Emma’s is a vacant lot, also believed to be owned by Mayrose Tyco.

matti-niall. · 1y. I don’t think you understand what gentrification is... you can’t gentrify a city like Burlington that’s already upper middle class. Emma’s closed due to COVID19 just like multiple downtown business will close over the next few weeks.
