Aug 01, 2008 · This was following the upgrade to Exchange 2003. For a quick fix get the user who generated the email to delete the message from the "sent items" and "deleted items". This then prevents exchange from picking it back up from the client. Quite simply, If you delete the message, exchanges message ID is broken for that mail and cannot send any more.
