Descemet's membrane rupture secondary to forceps injury

    http://webeye.ophth.uiowa.edu/eyeforum/atlas/pages/forceps-injury/index.htm
May 05, 2014 · Birth trauma from forceps delivery can cause breaks in Descemet's membrane and secondary corneal edema. The edema usually clears over time, but the ruptures in Descemet's membrane persist. The residual corneal changes can result in anisometropia and the main cause of vision loss after such an injury is anisometropic amblyopia.

Forceps-induced birth injury to the cornea.

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24717592
Apr 09, 2014 · Based on the appearance, orientation of the split and medical history of forceps delivery, a forceps injury to the left cornea was diagnosed. The break in Descemet's membrane is characteristically vertical due to the horizontal stretching of the globe which occurs with vertical compression of the globe between the orbit and the blade of the obstetric forceps.Author: Ruba Alobaidy, Sathish Srinivasan

Jul 01, 2014 · The cornea of the left eye showed vertical rupture in Decemet's membrane, typical of obstetric forceps injury, as opposed to the more horizontal or curvilinear breaks of ‘Haab's striae’ found in congenital glaucoma patients. Based on these findings, corneal birth trauma secondary to obstetric forceps injury in the left eye was established.Author: Anil K Mandal, Vijaya K Gothwal

Case Report: Forceps-induced birth injury to the cornea

    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3987508/
Apr 09, 2014 · Forceps injury to the cornea occurs during complicated forceps delivery. The infant cornea does not fully develop until 6 months of age. 1 The application of the forceps can cause accidental rupture of the cornea at the level of the Descemet's membrane. At birth the Descemet's membrane is much thinner (3–4 µm) than in an adult (10–12 µm) and more prone to injury.Author: Ruba Alobaidy, Sathish Srinivasan
