Jan 27, 2012 · In my experience, ALL car dealers charge a document preparation fee; most of them charge more than $149, and I've never been able to get a dealer to waive that fee. Be happy that CarMax doesn't add a non-negotiable freight/destination fee (as long as you didn't have the car transferred from another CarMax location), like most other dealers do.

Jul 08, 2010 · Best Answer: You don't. Carmax won't waive anything. Go buy your car at a real dealership instead of one that pretends you are their best interest. Carmax is overpriced on 95% of their vehicles and they won't negotiate anything. No thanks. If I want to pay retail, I can go anywhere.

For some people that justifies paying a higher price. A few years ago I bought a brand new Toyota. The local CarMax had several of the same model and year.
