Their sleep sucks at four months so many kids that even were sleeping well start waking 2-4 times a night at four months. Their sleep fundamentally changes at that age and is no longer a really deep sleep. Still nursing every two hours is still pretty normal at that age unfortunately. Some get longer stretches by that age but many don't.

4 month old still feeding every 2 hours! I really need some advice about my 16 week olds feeding habits. Since he was born we have been bottle feeding on demand which was always every 2 hours. This has just continued on and on until now he's 4 months old; he doesn't drink a lot per feed, normally only between 2-4oz a time.

By the time your baby is 1–2 months old, he or she probably will nurse 7–9 times a day. In the first few weeks of life, breastfeeding should be "on demand" (when your baby is hungry), which is about every 1-1/2 to 3 hours. As newborns get older, they'll nurse less often, and may have a more predictable schedule.

It’s how you can know if baby is getting enough milk. If baby is feeding every hour two and taking these feeds seriously – full feeds – then it’s likely a growth spurt or milk supply issue. Or if baby is trying to feed every hour or two and only feeding for five minutes here or there, it’s not likely a growth spurt.

He would get really sleepy and ready for a nap every 1-1.5 hours, and then nap for roughly 1.5-2 hours, so he naturally was eating about every 3 hours. His schedule for the most part was very “textbook”. At about 4 months old though, as I said, he started to change.

Baby can have a longer waketime or longer naps. To have a four hour feeding schedule, your baby needs to be able to stay awake for 2 hours and then sleep for 2 hours, OR baby needs to be able to stay awake for 1.5 hours and then nap for 2.5 hours. Some babies might be up for 2.5 hours and then nap for 1.5 hours.
