On average, I worked 11.1 hours each day: 8.46 hours per day if I was on scheduled shift work such as in the emergency department or urgent care and 12.93 hours per day if I was on Inpatient Wards. About 50-60 hours on average, give or take depending on the rotation. Most of the time I have 2-3 golden (Saturday-Sunday off) weekends a month. We do work hard, and even after you finish your cases, you have to read about your patients for the next day and call your attending to discuss them--that can be time consuming and it can feel like you're just living and breathing anesthesia (no pun intended) all day.
