Tickets are required, 1 per vehicle, from 9 AM to 5 PM. Ape Cave is closed to the public outside of these hours. Each ticket is valid for 2 hours of exploration in either the Lower or Upper Cave. You must arrive on time at the beginning of your reservation window. Reservation holder must be present at arrival.

If you like caves, and like to hike, give this place a try. The place is an old lava tube. You enter kind of in the middle, and have a choice of hiking the lower (easier) part, or the upper (harder) part. We chose the upper. The park itself is about an hour away from I-5, or about 1.5 hours from Portland, Oregon.

The Ape Caves are located on the south side of Mount St. Helens and accessed through Woodland - go up highway 503 past Cougar. Driving time from I-5 and highway 504 where all the Mount St. Helens Visitor Centers are to the Ape Cave is just over an hour.
