If you can overcome that obstacle, the rest is comparatively easier. It does take 1.5-2.0 hours to hike the cave, depending on how fit you are. We are 50+, and it was not an easy hike. Just took it slowly. Many kids had no problems, and passed us by easily. Half of cave is easy walk, but half of cave is filled with rock piles.

Ape Cave is a lava tube located about a 2 hour drive away from the volcano observatory. Driving time-wise, its actually close to Vancouver, WA, then the volcano.
