In its current state, I believe Instacart is a rip-off to the consumer. To answer your query, as a shopper I think a fair tip is 10-15% of the cost of the order. As a customer, I wouldn’t be able to justify paying that in addition to the amount of fees Instacart charges.

If it’s delivery you can tip on the app. If you are picking up at the store the only way to tip us (and yes we appreciate tips too) is with cash. We do not share tips with the drivers.

Jul 05, 2017 · Maybe one or two out of 5 customers tip. Most think the "service fee" in the app IS the tip to the shopper/delivery person- but its not, it gets pooled into instacart. If in doubt please give cash tips, they are always greatly appreciated. Not nearly enough people tip these days so when it does happen I am so grateful. Answered February 3, 2018

Instacart has to purchase a Costco membership for you. You’ll see your name on the membership card to enter the store. Standard Instacart 5% tip is defaulted. For the second anybody can get these. The customers membership card is used. No default tip is in place for these orders.
