I have seen 20 hour 125s and 40 hour 250s have less than 10% drop in compression but still need rings. I think you will find that for the average guy on a 125 you will need rings at 20 and piston/rings at 40. You might be able to squeeze 25 and 50 out of it but you already know 30 doesn't work in any way. Start a log.

If the factory is recommending 10 hours and you want to stretch it to 20, you might have a point. If you try and push it to 40, you might get there, but if you dont it could get expensive. A top end is not cheap.

As you can imagine the hours are clocking up on that rebuild pretty quickly. Eric Gorr says the 125 two strokes need new bottom ends every 80 hours. I think I'll go through 80 hours within the next year or two! But I can deal with that, whatever. But my service manual says i need to replace the piston every 7.5 hours.

2/5/2012 10:35 PM. Edited Date/Time: 2/5/2012 10:39 PM. On my 2005 Yz 125, it wasnt the shift lever that was the problem, it was hte shift bearing (not sure of the exact name) but on the 2005's, it is a ball bearing and in mine, the balls in the bearing got lose in the motor and you can guess what happened from there. but I would recommend ...
