In 1976, Charleswood Library joined the Winnipeg Public Library system, and an expansion of the building completed in 1983 brought its size to 4,914 sq. ft. - one of the smallest branches in the system. In 2014, work began on a new 13,215 sq. ft. library. The new Charleswood Library opened on January 19, 2015.

For your convenience, there is an after-hours book return on the front of the building. History. St. James-Assiniboia Library opened in 1958. The library was built by the then independent city of St. James. It was expanded in 1963 and a second floor added in 1970, resulting in one of the largest branches in the Winnipeg Public Library system.
