The Carousel for All Children in Willowbrook Park will re-open on Thursday, July 1! The daily schedule will be Thursday – Sunday from 11 am to 5:45 pm. In addition, the Carousel will also be open on Monday, July 5th for the holiday.

Willowbrook Lake, the first man-made pond on Staten Island was constructed in 1932 by Parks Commissioner John J. O’Rourke. Stocked with fish, the five acres are also a bird sanctuary. A new feature in the park is the Carousel for All Children, a 94’ structure that opened in May 1999.

This carousel is also called the Willowbrook Park carousel since that’s the park it sits in, and also the Zodiac Carousel since it has a partial theme of the Zodiac on and around it as well. This is a beautiful and fun carousel made by Carousel Works in 1997, and it’s been well kept up.

So sad to learn that Willowbrook will be closing after this season. They offer a large collection of farm equipment, beautiful antique carriages and sleighs including a restored Concord coach. The antique carousel is amazing and a ride on it is a chance of a lifetime. This is the world's largest portable carousel. It's history is fascinating.
