Only 30min from Auckland (and mostly by motorway) it's easily accessed. It's large and is surrounded by huge old trees, perfect for picnicking under. My younger sister had her 21st birthday there (a family picnic) and it was brilliant.

The Te Akeake walk is a thirty minute trail, the Maungatauhoro Te Hikoi is a ninety minute walk, while the Perimeter walk will take about two and a half hours. The park includes plenty of picnic tables, barbeque facilities, changing rooms, a boat ramp and a campsite. Pedestrian access is open 24 hours. Opening Hours: Monday - 6am–9pm Tuesday - 6am–9pm
