Wells Beach is a great place and if you'd like someplace equally as beautiful but much more quiet go to Drake's Island which is just north of Wells. Excellent beach and tons of quaint cottages and rental homes. It's a great place for small kids as well.

Definitely have dinner at The Steakhouse just north of the park. Get there 30 minutes before the place opens at 4 pm. There will be a line but trust me its worth the wait. Also check out the Nubble light house about 35 minutes south. The views and lighthouse are stunning! We camped at Wells Beach Resort Campground in a Motorhome.
