The Lincoln link i posted shows 10 ft per hour on 5/16 overhead single pass with a 5/16 electrode and they show 13 ft per hour with a 1/8in electrode on vert up. They have a whole bunch of different rods and positions shown, can't believe they are too far off thr mark. To me the numbers sound a little low but I'll be first to admit

For instance, if it takes 4 lbs. of electrode to deposit3 lbs. (1.4 kg) of weld metal, E = 3/4 = .75 or 75%. F. Gas Flow Rate (Cubic Feet/Hour)For GMAW with solid wires use a shielding gas flow rate of 25 to 30 cubic feet per hour. For smalldiameter flux cored electrodes (1/16” or 1.6 mm diameter and under) use 35 cubic feet per hour.

Average weld time for a welder, no fitting, on day shift was 1 1/2 - 2 hours and swing was 2-2 1/2 hours checked for a full week. The parts consisted of 5/8 plate welded to 2 1/4" plate about 36" long, 3/8 fillet welds with studs in the way so much re-positioning, then, get the in house and TPI inspections done, roll the 40'+ long member each weighing in at 50-60,000 lbs …

The cylinder gas cost is 13 cents per-cubic foot. The MIG gas flow rate per-hour is 30 cuft/hr. The welder average an arc on time of 20 minutes per hour results in a gas use of 10 cuft/hr. 10 cuft x 13 cents = MIG gas cost of $1.30 an hour, or gas cost per part is approx. 5 cents.

If a welder does 200 inches a day and your overhead cost is $50 an hour times 8 hours that would be $400 divided by 200 inches you would charge $2.00 for every inch of welding. This equation can be a great starting point for any welding business.

45 welds x 3in each = 135 inches = 11.25 feet -> @ 0.072 lb/ft this yields 0.81 lbs per assembly. 17 welds x 4.5in each = 76.5 inches = 6.375 feet -> @ 0.129 lb/ft this yields 0.82 lbs per assembly. Adding these together gives a total of 1.63 lb per part. And for a total of 3,200 parts we would need 5,216 pounds of weld metal.

RE: Welding speed rates. stanweld (Materials) 6 May 09 10:32. The 3/16" fillet can be made with SMAW in a single pass at average speeds (in all positions) at about 8"/min. Figure at least a 50% non-arc on time and 4"/min. would seem logical. If the Contractor adds in fitup, setup, scaffolding,etc. per vesselfab, much lesser rates would be ...
