12:00 p.m. All wedding party members arrive at ceremony venue. 12:15 p.m. Couples' "first look" and portraits. 1:00 p.m. Wedding party and family photos with the couple. 1:30 p.m. Guests begin to arrive / pre-ceremony music starts. 2:00 p.m. Ceremony start time

However, assuming you are having your ceremony and reception at the venue and you have a hard stop of 10 p.m., here’s how I would plan your wedding timeline: 4:30 p.m.: Ceremony starts (however you would say 4 p.m. on your wedding invitation, as you always want to give 1/2 hour for guests to arrive). 5:00: Cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres.

Because the 4 p.m. ceremony time, 10 p.m. reception end (with both ceremony and reception in the same venue), with secular ceremony and photos beforehand is a pretty common format, let’s start with that wedding timeline. 10:00 a.m. —Hair and makeup / Getting ready. 12:00–2:00 p.m. —Most vendors arrive for setup.

ladylee · on February 9, 2010 at 11:01 AM. Flag. I don't know that I would drive more than about an hour to attend a wedding if the person lives local to me. If it's 3 hours away, that means your guests will be driving for a total of 6 hours to attend an event that probably won't last longer than their drive time.

If it's that big of a burden to you, don't go. It's an invitation, not a summons, as they say. Plus, in your case, 1.5 hours is not that far at all. It takes me an hour and fifteen minutes just to get to work everyday. Try not to worry about it too much. Your wedding sounds like a lot of fun and the important people will be there.
