I think we spent 2 1/2 hours at Ellis Island and made it back to lower Manhattan with plenty of time before the lunch rush. You CAN NOT bring bags, backpacks, knifes, etc. with you. It is just like airport security but a little more strict.

Property Description. While visiting Ellis Island, take a guided 90 minute tour on the New Jersey side of the island and see inside areas of the abandoned 750 bed Ellis Island hospital complex. These buildings have been off limits to the public since 1951 and each day, a limited number of guests are allowed to tour the decaying facility.
