The free 24 hour cancellation period applies to the airlines only, not to third party agents and bookers. So yes Vayama's charge is perfectly legal. So yes Vayama's charge is perfectly legal. Had you booked that flight directly with the airline you wouldn't have had any charge.

Vayama lets you cancel tickets BEFORE they are ticketed or before 24 hours have lapsed - whichever comes earlier - if an airline tickets your reservation right away. If the ticket is issued before 24 hours have lapsed, the company charges a $50 service charge for a cancellation until 24 hours have passed (then the ticket rules kick in).

I had no problem cancelling the flights with airlines (norwegian, air italy), but the portion that i booked on Vayama - they told me that they are going to charge me $50 cancellation fee. Not that it is a huge amount to pay, but i am just puzzled since no one else told me to pay this fee, and according to government website, US customers should be provided with free 24 hour airline cancellation.

I think this is because Vayama don't confirm the booking with the airline until they have finalised the payment which seems to take them up to 24 hours; whereas Expedia and Opodo etc. seem to confirm in real time. My learning is not to use Vayama again at least until they sort their booking process out !

23 posts. 3. Re: Vayama flight cancellation. 4 years ago. Save. Thank you, i was finally able to get in touch. I did not bought a refundable ticket so vayama did charged me 100$ administrative charges plus 56$ by airline. But I will be refunded the rest.
