Most UVic students have an Athletics & Recreation fee included as part of their tuition payment. These students have access to a Base Membership with the Base Benefits listed on Page 3. UVic’s varsity teams offer the perfect avenue to show your school spirit. CARSA is home of the Vikes teams and Vikes Nation. It holds a two-floor weight room and is a hub for athletics and active living programs alongside the McKinnon Gym and Pool, outdoor fields and artificial turfs, stadium track and Ian Stewart ice rink.

There are two weight centres. One is the McKinnon weight room, currently closed due to COVID. It has basic equipment and is included in student fees. The other is the CARSA fitness centre, it has better equipment but requires you to buy a pass every semester on top of your student fees.

The McKinnon gym is free but small, although they do have a nice pool. Ian Stewart is the other athletic complex, and they're $40 a semester. Myfirstyear A. replied: The weight room in the McKinnon building is small, yes, BUT.... the Ian Stewart Complex has the largest university weight room/gym in Western Canada.
