The USS Cairo is a civil war ironclad that was sunk in the nearby Yazoo River. The ship was salvaged and reassembled as best as possible and is on display in the Vicksburg National Battlefield.

This exhibit, which includes the actual raised Civil War gunboat USS Cairo and a museum with all of the personal effects from the 175 crewmembers who had to hurriedly leave the sinking gunboat on December 12, 1862, is superb. This a really wonderful addition to the outstanding Vicksburg National Military Park.
