Iowa Law’s Pro Bono Society honors students who have completed 15 hours of service, at least 7.5 of which are Community Hours, and attended at least one Lawyers & Leaders program in the previous semester. The Boyd Service Award is bestowed at graduation on students who have completed a total of at least 100 service hours, at least 50 of which are Community Hours, throughout their law school career.

Last May, 20 graduating students were recognized with Boyd Service Honors. Collectively, the Class of 2021completed 4,475 hours during their time at Iowa Law through various form of service. These requirements were relaxed the past three semester in light of the ongoing pandemic.

Boyd Service Award determinations for current students graduating in 2021, 2022, and 2023 will be based on 90% of the usual required career hours. The service hours requirement for Spring 2021 Pro Bono Society membership will be 2/3 the usual requirement (10 hours, of which 5 are community hours).
