Another important concern is the discrepancy between the operations of dining halls, why is it that the Orchard Commons dining hall is open far later than that of Totem Park and Place Vanier. On weekends (Friday to Saturday) Vanier closes at 7:30pm.

So Vanier is a lot more ‘quieter’…when it needs to be quiet. But keep in mind that during finals, they enforce Quiet hours and Silent hours…so loudness IN residence is absolutely intolerable . And during the rest of the year they have quiet hours: Sunday-Thursday 9pm – 7 am, and Friday-Saturday 1 am-7 am.

Pros of Place Vanier: It’s bigger, so if you like a bigger community that’s good. Pretty pretty dining area. More food stations than Totem (in reality though, pretty much the same amount of different types of food gets served.) Close to the Nitobe Memorial Garden, and pretty much the whole north campus, home to arts and science.

That's 1/4th of your waking hours spent on commute to UBC. I'd strongly recommend looking for housing closer to campus. Hell if I were in your position, I'd consider sleeping in my car or even camping in fucking pacific spirit park to be able to live closer to campus. 4 hours a day is time you don't get back, my man, that's a drain on your life.

The totem and OC dining halls are equal both pretty good, but vanier the dining hall isn't the best. Although tec and Korea are good and the benefit of vanier is location (short distance to classes) for everyone except kin kids.
