The Safed Candle Factory in Tzfat was established in the early 90s by candlemaker Moshe Shkhar. The factory actually burned down in 2008, losing all of its inventory, but as the ash and rubble was cleared away, construction workers discovered ancient rooms that had been covered over by earthquakes centuries earlier.

The menorah candles are well beyond the standard candle that looks like it belongs on a birthday cake. Safed Hanukah candles are multicolored and multi toned, some fading from sky blue at the base to cloud blue at the top, some with several colors progressing up their length. Some have a wax design added on top of the colors.
