Hanging Drywall Vertically: Leave a 1/8-in. Gap. There’s no reason to measure and cut drywall for an exact fit. It’ll usually just cause trouble. Jamming in a piece that’s too tight will crumble the edge or break out a corner (left). And removing a piece to shave a too-tight edge is messy and time consuming.

Drywall should never be cut for a tight fit. Sometimes you can get a tight fit to work, but most often, the edge of the sheet will break or blow out as you try to push it into place. Typically, the ceiling panels are installed first, and the wall panels are butted to the edges. This gives you a lot of tolerance with fitting ceiling panels.

Obviously I could cut the 4'x8' pieces of drywall in half and they would all fit perfectly but this would mean a lot more taping. A suggestion was made to me by a friend to score one side of the drywall (the bad side you want facing the stud), turn it over and fold it over on itself. So I'd then have a double thick 4'x4' piece of drywall.

The staircase has 180 degrees turn and it's tight. There's no way to fit 4x8 sheet of drywall through. Sheets up to 80" long should be ok. I can't do it through a window and I don't want to disassemble the floor. There remain 3 options. 1. cut drywall in smaller pieces, like 8' into 4' or better yet longer sheets like 12 or 14 into halves.

Mississauga. Oct 4th, 2010 6:44 pm. In order to get drywall into our basement we had to remove the basement door, along with the railing along the basement stair. The drywall had enough flex that it would fit around the corner of the basement stairs. We used 4'x8' sheets. Reply. Reply with quote. Oct 4th, 2010 6:46 pm.

Wrap Around Wood Mantle. 6 Materials. $90. 7 Hours. Medium. I've been wanting to spruce up my peninsula fireplace for a while and finally decided to add a faux wood beam wrap around mantle! I love the character and charm it adds! It also makes decorating this space so fun! For this project I used #2 pine boards.
