Brick Branch, the second branch of the Ocean County Library, occupied 3,600 square feet and offered a collection of 5,000 volumes to its population of 24,000. The library was open for 32 hours a week. By the end of the first year, there were 5,766 registered borrowers, a circulation of almost 54,000 items, and the collection exceeded 10,000 volumes.

A contract between the Township, the Association, and the Ocean County Library Commission created this new branch of the library system. It opened to the public on June 19, 1980. In 1983, the Township Council appointed a Citizen’s Advisory Committee to examine the feasibility of withdrawing the library from the County Library system.

The Facility Development Phase of the Ocean County Library’s Master Plan was adopted in 1986. Under this plan costs for construction of a new building would be split between the county and the municipality. A site on Beaver Dam Road was selected, and a contract was signed between the County, the Council, and the Ocean County Library Commission.

The library continues to serve the people of Jackson Township and Ocean County. In 2012, the Jackson Branch answered about 84,292 questions. According to the New Jersey Public Library Survey in 2013, the Jackson Branch circulated approximately 374,899 items. The library houses over 109,855 printed volumes for customers to read.

March 10, 1980: The Barnegat Branch of the Ocean County Library officially opens with approximately 3,000 volumes and subscriptions to 8 magazines and 2 newspapers, and is staffed by branch manager Jean Volgrin, one library assistant, pages, and volunteers. 1982 - 1985: The branch is enlarged and remodeled when the Township court is relocated.
