I am also experiencing speed drop off at peak times. I have a Raspberry Pi that does a speed test every 2 hours. I did this on my ADSL2 and now on my FTTN NBN connection . I only got the connection last Tuesday 11/10/16. I am a early adopter in this area as it only became available this month.

Essentially you are getting 5-6 hours of off-peak time, so if you are on the ADSL2+ 180GB plan with 90GB peak/90GB off-peak, you only have this short nocturnal period to use half of your quota. However, it should be noted 90GB in the peak time is a massive amount of internet data, and you would probably never get close to using it all.

The off-peak period sadly extends from 2am to 8am EST, but only downloads are counted (not uploads), which is a real advantage. When you reach your data limit you will be shaped down to a 1000kbps (1mbps) speed, which is still pretty quick. There are no off peak downloads. Any usage over 500mb if that is the plan they are on will incur 13.9c per mb. The 500mb includes both uploads and downloads. You should check telstra's website before posting pointless threads here. Telstra has mirrors for some files at files.bigpond.com and www.gamearena.com.au that are unmetered.

With a stated average download speed of 378Mbps, Telstra’s 5G internet is also a cut above some of the best NBN 250 plans, and generally speaking, it’s cheaper too. Telstra does note that its connection can get down to 50Mbps during peak times, and for AU$85p/m, you’d be hoping to regularly get much faster than that.
