I am a teacher working full time. I had my request to work part time refused when I returned from maternity leave in September. I only used the 'informal' request method. I have, informally, requested it again for this September. My new Head Teacher hasn't said yes or no but that it depends on the circumstances

I have a friend who has been told she is going to be refused part time hours on her return to work after her maternity leave finishes. She has requested to teach 4 days a week. The basis of the refusal will be that that school has had several disrupted years with several maternity leaves and a long term sick leave, and that it would be unfair on pupils or other staff.
