"Options -> Delivery Status Notification" when composing a message seems having no result. Is this problem due to sender and/or recipient provider's servers (Gmail) or is this feature not yet implemented in the current alpha of Thunderbird? I also noticed that in Sent folder the messages sent with a Delivery Status Notification has no "Return-Receipt-To: " header, quite strange.

Jun 20, 2015 · Many email clients (such as Thunderbird) let a person override a request for a notification/receipt. An unscrupulous way to tell if somebody read your message is to send an HTML message that retrieves web bugs from a remote server. That's why Thunderbird defaults to not displaying remote images by default, to defeat that.

The issue is here is 'Delivery Status Notification' (DSN), i.e. message header 'Return-Receipt-To'. They are 2 different things. The MDN can be ignored by the recipient upon *reading* the message, while the DSN is supposedly responded by the destination mail server. Thunderbird does not even send the email with message header 'Return-Receipt-To'.
