3 reviews of Stasi Museum "How am I the first person to write a review on Yelp about the Stasi museum in Leipzig? Wow. Just wow. It's amazing to learn the many layers of history a country has and we all know Germany is rich in history. The 20th century alone was just craziness. Who knew Leipzig was the epicenter of the German secret police?

Museum im Stasi Bunker, located at Lübschützer Teiche in Machern is actually 22 km far from Leipzig (address mentioned here is wrong). Bunker is open to visitors last weekend of every month from 13:00 till 16:00. It's a bit hard to get there without a car or a bike, but it's worth it!

Stasi Museum. In the GDR the walls had ears, as is chillingly documented in this exhibit in the former Leipzig headquarters of the East German secret police (the Stasi), a building known as the Runde Ecke (Round Corner). English-language audioguides (€4) aid in understanding the all-German displays on propaganda, preposterous disguises ...

About 10 minutes stroll from the central station. Free entrance, but go in to the room directed and get a set of headphones for 5 euro. Most of the written stuff is only in German. Takes 1-2 hours, and is full of facts, pictures and equipment from that era.

There is a Stasi Bunker Museum 30 kilometers east of the city, as well as a site where executions were carried out just south of town. That site, however, is currently only open on two days a year – Museum Day (normally in May) and Day of Open Memorials (normally in September).
